TRAIL RIDES WALES
This page is for riders who are bringing their own trail, enduro or LDT bikes. Please see our
"prices"
page for details if you need to use one of our bikes.
PRICES
The minimum group size is four riders, unless you want one-to-one tuition or are willing to pay a little extra for an exclusive group. Although we will do our best to comply with your wishes, at weekends it may not be possible. If we add others to your group, we always try to match types of bike and amount of experience.
TRF members receive £5 discount.

We do not ride on Mondays. We usually ride on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and most (but not all) Sundays, but can do Tuesdays by arrangement. We have several guides available, so please enquire about any particular dates you are interested in.
If you suffer a major bike breakdown, we can usually provide a replacement bike. The price charged will be at our usual rate in proportion to how long you use our bike, less the fee you have already paid. (For usual rate see the
Using Our Bikes
page.)
No deposit is required. Full payment must be received three weeks in advance of your booking. If not received, the booking will deem to have lapsed (unless I have forgotten to remind you!)
Payment options:-
- internet or telephone bank transfer (or direct deposit into our bank account)
- credit or debit card over the phone - 01686 430522
- cheque
- if you wish to use Paypal, please add £3 per person for one day, £5 per person for two days or £8 for three days.
DATES
- Dates are allocated first come, first served.
- Once you have asked for a specific date, it will be reserved for you until three weeks before.
- Payment must be received by the last week day three weeks beforehand. I will normally remind you when a month remains.
- If the date chosen cannot be adhered to, you may change the date.
- Gift vouchers do not require a date to be set in advance
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
If you wish to download the Information and Terms and Conditions (Own Bikes Trail Riding), it is available as a Word document or an
RTF document.
Trail Rides Wales provide a guided trail riding day for people with their own road legal trail bikes, including long distance trials or enduro sidecars. If you or your group will find the tarmac stretches annoying, and will not be happy following a leader who may be slower than you, then please think carefully before booking with us.
If you are doing two or three days’ riding, we usually ride from different places so that the routes are vaired. This might require taking your bikes out to a meeting place in your van or car and trailer. We usually go to a cafe for lunch. Most of our routes pass petrol stations in conjunction with the lunch time stop. If you ride a bike with a range of less than 60 miles, please let us know so that we can make plans for your refuelling.
We can only take exclusive bookings for groups smaller than six riders for midwweek dates. At weekends, we will respect your wishes if at all possible, but if necessary we may need to add groups smaller than six riders together. If so, we try to match types of bikes and experience.
Trail Rides Wales require the following:-
- You and your trail or enduro bike are licensed, taxed and insured for British roads. No motocrossers, even if they are registered and MoT'd.
- Your bike must not be excessively noisy. If it is, you will not be able to ride with us. Trail riding is our full-time occupation, so closure of green lanes would mean the loss of our business. Many of the green lanes we use pass through farms and by rural dwellings, and to ensure continued use, it is important that we should not cause aggravation to farmers and householders.
- It is suggested that your bike has a full size numberplate fitted. Welsh Police are targetting illegal offroaders, and will stop any group of bikes with small numberplates. This is time consuming and irritating, and it is hard to persuade the Police that we only ride legal routes if they can criticise the legality of the bikes in the group.
- To arrive at the meeting place at 9.30am or other specified time. If you are more than half an hour late, please send a text to 07891 036527 and 07786 922655 (these numbers are given on the directions sheets). If we suffer a vehicle breakdown we will send you a text if you have given us a mobile number.
- To inform us if you are inexperienced or would like tuition.
- If over 18, to sign an indemnity stating that it is understood that this is a
potentially dangerous activity.
- If under 18, to be accompanied by a responsible adult who will sign the indemnity and our consent form. If the responsible adult is not a parent or guardian, the young person needs to send an appropriately signed consent form to be received one week before the riding day.
- Your bike must have lights fitted, preferably working in case of fog or heavy rain. In winter this is particularly important because a delay could cause darkness to fall before we finish.
- Please do not overtake the leader unless he signals you to do so. If he is going slowly, it is for a reason.
- You must stay on the right of way. Only the track is legal. Riding on the land beside the track is "riding on land not forming part of a road". Powys and Ceredigion County Councils have online submission forms for the public to report "riding on land not forming part of a road", and farmers who are anti bikes may well do so. If they take photographs as evidence and are willing to stand as a witness, your bike could be confiscated and crushed, and you could be prosecuted, . The Police carry out regular "illegal riding" operations in the areas where we ride.
- If you open a gate, you are responsible for making sure that it is closed (by you or someone else). Do not ride off, otherwise riders following may assume that it was already open and fail to close it.
- Ride with courtesy and consideration, both for other users and your riding companions. If you want to race, go and do an enduro.
- Please do not ’roost’ your mates, as this is potentially dangerous if his eyes happen to be uncovered.
- Please do not wheelie or do stoppies. They can cause damage where the lane surface is delicate, and give a bad impression to the public.
- If riding on a grass surface, please accelerate and brake gently to preserve the surface. Once torn up, grass takes a long time to recover.
- Riders showing no respect for the countryside or other users of the byways and unclassified county roads will not be tolerated. The ride leader reserves the right to cancel the ride at any time during the day. One or two warnings will be given. The second warning may be given for a different reason. If the first two warnings are not heeded, then the day will be ended without refund.
- Please inform us if there is a change in the number or type of people if this changes subsequent to the original booking. Emails can sometimes go astray, so if making changes, please ask for confirmation that the changes have been noted.
Please note:
Noise: many of the lanes we use pass through farms and by rural dwellings, and to ensure continued use, it is important that we should not cause more than minimal disturbance.
We can only take exclusive bookings for groups smaller than six riders for midweek dates. At weekends, we will respect your wishes if at all possible, but if necessary we may need to add groups smaller than six riders together. If so, we try to match types of bike and experience.
If you are doing two or three days’ riding, we usually ride from different places so that the routes are varied. This might require taking your bikes out to a meeting place in your van or car and trailer,
Lunch and petrol stops
When trail riding, we usually go to a cafe so please bring some money. Most of our routes pass petrol stations in conjunction with the lunch time stop. If you ride a bike with a range of less than 60 miles, please let us know so that we can make plans for your refuelling.
If you are joining one of our "private land" days, please bring sandwiches and enough petrol for your day. We provide tea and coffee.
PAYMENT INFORMATION
- Full payment must be made by bank transfer, credit or debit card, Paypal or cheque cleared by three weeks before your booking.
- If you book more than one days riding, you will not receive a refund if you decide after the first day you do not want to ride any more days.
CANCELLATION POLICY
Cancellation by the client:-
- Cancellation by the client with more than three weeks notice will not incur any charge.
- Cancellation by the client less than three weeks before will require a different date to be set.
- You can postpone bookings in November, December, January, February, March or April if there is a forecast of snow or temperatures well below freezing all day, although we do ride in these conditions if you wish. Snow is interesting!
Cancellation by Trail Rides:-
- If heavy snow falls, we are likely to be cut off, as the roads to our village are hilly in all directions! A new date will need to be set.
- If an alternative date is impossible to arrange, a refund less £5 per person will be made.
